20 odd things before i sleep
The other night Mary and I sat together and separately made up lists of things we wanted to do before we die and then compared notes. Thanks for the idea Amanda and here is my list. I retain the right to change any of them as I so choose. (The following are in no particular order)
1. Get married
2. Have kids...I think somewhere between 2-4 but who knows
3. Travel to Banff, Canada and stay in a mountain cabin
4. Spend time in New Zealand in mountains with view of the Ocean
5. Go to a World Cup game
6. Complete an Ironman
7. Buy a house
8. Live in a foreign country for 3 or more months
9. Act in a live performance and/or film
10. Teach in a church service
11. Go to sub-Saharan Africa (and during time there go on a safari) - Sara you can help with this one
12. Take a cooking class (buy white hat to go with it)
13. Own a motorcycle (and road trip, Motorcycle Diaries affect or is it effect)
14. Tour vineyards in Napa Valley or I would be willing to replace this with a similar tour in another country
15. Backpack in Alaska
16. Get my pilots license
17. Become fluent in another language
18. Complete my masters and doctorate
19. Take a photography class
20. Live for at least a week in an open
OPT:
(a) Be a speaker at a conference
(b) Brew beer or make wine (what is the word for making wine? Is there one?)
(c) Kayak along Mexican border or along Apostle Islands
So there it is, a dream list of things that at this point I would love to do before I die. Only God knows if any of them will happen or if I will even wake up tomorrow. Come what may.

mjon,
a couple things made me laugh...like the mexican border kayaking...only because the portions of the border i have seen are more concrete or mud than water...it be like the concrete boat thing...only switched. another thing...you're pretty damn good at German...or at least you used to be...go ahead and finish that off...so you can check it off the list. lists are good for that...checking things off :-)
i wish for you to go to Kenya this year...is it even possible? i was going thru my safari pictures tonight to look up the scientific names for each animal and figure out the exact kinds of giraffes we saw...did you know there were three kinds in Kenya...did you know that Kirk's Dikdik...a tiny tiny...antelope dosn't need to drink water? so, i love Kenya and you need to come :-)
lets get together soon, even if skinne can't be here and even if you want to blow off next to the goal on the ice men's hockey tickets...jerk. ha. j/k. we need to catch up.
adios love-shaniqua PEACE.
Live for at least a week in an open what?
You should just take one of those classes and check them off the list, there are plenty of them around for cooking or photography.
bret, i think jon meant an open-air house ...
so fun to do these lists. if you live to be 100 (with perfect health till you drop), i wonder what your list of "top 20 things to do before death" would look like at age 80.
i suppose you've got a few years till then. and obviously lots to do yet before you think of a new list. i hope you get to do it all.
Good list Jon. I think Mary needs to post her list on her blog now.
thanks for your welcome. and thanks for not calling it the blogosphere. you are a beautiful man, and yes, you could take adam i think. no offense adam, but jon has become something of a stud in the last few years. a force to be reckoned with, really. actually, don't even reckon with him...or look at him. just speak of his spledor with a hushed voice.
i like your lists, jon. you are really sucking the marrow out of life...with a barbaric yawp...and a flux capacitor.
